Welcome back again to Generally Weekly. Every once in awhile we’ll try to send over a new record, an old record, a playlist, an item of note, and a bonus track. Please share if you dig.

A New Record
Daisy Rickman - Howl - Our friend Mickey showed us this album a few weeks ago, and needless to stay, the first listen knocked the wind out us. Beautiful, haunting albeit life-affirming folk music from Cornwall in South West England. Rickman’s rich vocals occupy a register somewhere between Grouper and Nick Drake. She wrote and recorded everything herself, which includes a “mix of singing, Acoustic Guitar, 12 String, Double Bass, Drums, Percussion, Sitar, Cello, Bouzouki, Banjo, Accordion, Clarinet, Fiddle, and Synthesizer.” And if that’s not enough, Rickman also painted the cover art.
Dig in via the link below. There was a pressing with the inimitable Weird Walk, but it’s long sold out and over $200 / copy now. If you find one let us know, lol. Put Howl on headphones and go for a long stroll out in the country.
An Old Record
Dan Reeder - This New Century - Man, we saw Dan Reeder perform with his daughter, Peggy, last week at Soft Junk, and, yea, it was an absolute fucking gas. We loved Dan walking out to “It’s My Life,” by Bon Jovi, his dry onstage banter, his chemistry with Peggy and their harmonies, and his songs. It’s all about the songs, and Dan has plenty. We found ourselves particularly struck by a few tracks they performed from Dan’s album, This New Century, especially, “Maybe.” Phew, what a song. For example:
Me and Stevie Gibson used to walk home from school
he used to have this little turn around rule
if you turn around the one way gotta turn around the other way or it's bad luck
He went out rafting on the river
the river went around and the raft went around
and his luck got all wound up and he drowned
and he was gone
It was all smiles and tears and laughs and it was absolutely perfect. So if you can go see him on his upcoming dates in NYC and Brooklyn, then do it!
MJ Lenderman and the Wind - Live at Pappy and Harriet’s - 10/28/22
Big ups to MJ Lenderman and co on their big moment. They all deserve it. So many great songs. This is a fun set from a few years back at Pappy and Harriet’s. Crowd is a bit chatty but they power through it. What you see is what you get with MJ. That’s a compliment. Go see ‘em live if you can get tix.
A New Generally General
